Dear university teachers and students in Civil Engineering and Architecture,

Dear colleagues,

 

The XI international Scientific Conference VSU’2011 was held on the 2 and 3 June 2011, at the Higher School of Civil Engineering (VSU) “Lyuben Karavelov” - Sofia.

 

Honorary guests of the conference were Professor Radomir Folic from Serbia, Academic Angel Baltov from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Assoc. Prof. Dobrin Denev - Rector of UACEG.

 

 

The degree Doctor Honoris Causa of VSU was awarded to Professor Heinz Brandl from Austria, and Architect Georgi Stoilov.

During the conference, there was an exhibition of projects and models developed by the students of the Faculty of Architecture, which all guests and participants enjoyed after the Opening Ceremony.

 

Presentations were made according to the conference programme in all fields of the Architecture and Building Science - Mechanics, Structures, Architecture, Construction Technology, Organization and Economics, Building Materials, Environmental Problems, Road and Railroad Engineering, Geodesy.

 

228 papers were published in the conference proceedings; 120 from Bulgaria and 108 from abroad - from Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, Greece, Germany, Austria, Ukraine, USA. Many of the international participants came to Bulgaria to deliver their presentations, thus contributing to establishing the conference as a major event in the field of Building and Architecture in the region.

 

Traditionally, a competition for best presentation by a young researcher was held. The first prize went to Mr. Ciprian Cozmanciuc, the second to Ms. Emanuela Manolova and the third to Ms. Radka Tepla, Mr. Lachezar Hrischev and Ms. Julia Ilieva.
