The curriculum contains:
Section 1: Steel Structures
Introduction in the theory of steel structures. Classification. Types of construction steels – characteristics and assortment. Basic methods for dimensioning of steel structures for centric and eccentric tension and compression, bending in the elastic and plastic stage. Connections in steel structures – welding and bolt connections – calculation and construction. Beam structures – dimensioning and construction of rolled and split (composite) beams, checking and ensuring the general and local stability. Columns – types, cross-section types, work of the columns under centric and eccentric compression, dimensioning and construction. Trusses – general characteristics, static calculation, dimensioning, construction. Composition solutions of industrial building structural systems, spatial stabilization, static investigation, dimensioning of the building elements. Bearing structures of large-span buildings – beam, frame and arch structures. Multi-storey buildings with steel structure, spatial stabilization, specific features of their calculation and construction. Towers and masts – fundamentals of calculation and construction. Sheet steel structures – reservoirs, bunkers, silos – dimensioning methods, structural specificities. Prestressed steel structures – beams and trusses, methods for prestressing, calculation. Hanging covers – planar and spatial, combined systems.
Section 2: Timber and Plastic Constructions
Main types of wooden and plastic structures (WPS). General features and specific properties of WPS. Structure and composition of wood. Assortment. Work of wood under loading. Protection of wooden structures against biological damages and fire. Dimensioning of one-part elements. Connections and connection items in wooden structures. Split elements with compliable connections. Split (solid-walled) plate girders. Wooden rod beams (trusses). Steel-wooden trusses. Frame and arch structures. Structural elements of the roof and wall partitioning. Spatial strengthening of planar wooden structures (WS). Wooden structures of residential buildings.
