Main topics: Basic concepts of roads and road network, classification, general requirements and main characteristics. Design of the road in plan (situation) – road alignment, general and normative requirements, selection of radii, transition curves. Design of the road in longitudinal profile – requirements for the design of the level line, ensuring of visibility, vertical curves. Road bed – elements, types, widening, rising, visibility in the horizontal curves. Transverse profiles of the road – requirements, types, determining the soil mass amounts, Bruckner polygon. Road pavements – classification, structural elements, technology of execution. Asphalt mixes and pavements – classification, materials, production, technology of execution, types of asphalt-concrete pavements. Concrete pavements – structural specific features, technology of execution. Dimensioning of road pavements – methods, dimensioning loads, construction requirements, dimensioning of semi-rigid and elastic pavements. Interaction between the road and the transport vehicles. Drainage of the road.
Basic concepts for traction calculations in railroad construction. Plan and longitudinal profile of the railroad line – arrangement and coordination. General information for the superstructure and lower structure of the railroad.
