The course aims to provide a common picture of the development of painting, sculpture and architecture of Ancient Ages, Antiquity, Medieval ages and the Renaissance. The students are introduced to the periodization and classification of the arts, the synthesis of art and architecture and the basic concepts such as age, direction, style, artwork, genre etc. It includes the following periods and countries: the primitive communal system, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Aegean world, Ancient Greece, Rome, Early Christian art, Byzantine, Western Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the general features of the art of the Bulgarian Revival. The objective of the course is to adopt the definitions, to develop visual memory, recognition of the trends in art, the characteristic features of the periods and their recognition through images.

The discipline consists of topics, covering the required theoretical and practical issues, related to the use of geodetic tools and methods for measuring angles, distances and elevations, the making of geodetic plans, the geodetic works accomplished during site investigation, design, building, equipment and inspection of buildings and installations. The first topics deal with the measure units in land surveying, the coordinate systems, elements of the theory of approximation, as well as the processing of data from land surveying.Subsequently, the issues of making geodetic plans and maps are presented, starting with the required set of reference points and the methods for their setting and use.The last topic covers some of the applications of land surveying in construction and architecture.

Descriptive Geometry is one of the disciplines, comprising the basics of engineering education, aiming at providing students with the skills to make drawings both by hand and computer aided. It teaches the principle projection methods for representation of 3D objects on a plane, which enable the visualisation of solids as well as of whole sets of objects in construction and architecture. The three main methods of representing 3D spaces on a plane: Monge projection, axonometry and perspective are explained Students  learn how to represent points, lines and planes  in space, and their relative position. They solve affinity and metric problems. Plane figures, 3D objects and their plane cross sections are depicted. The correlation between the three models is identified.

On the appointed design terrain, a bungalow or a set of bungalows are situated, as well as a park.The design is developed in compliance with the building specifications, the situation, the laws and regulations. The design will be in line with the city planning indicators, with the situation, the surroundings, built and non-built environment, pedestrian and motorway access, as well as with other aspects of urban planning.

An appropriate structural system of the bungalow must be selected (preferably an assembly-type wooden skeleton frame) and the building systems requirements must be met.

The course aims to provide essential knowledge of the origin of architectural forms in prehistoric times, the development of architecture in early civilisations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Crete, Mycenae) and its evolution in Antiquity (Ancient Greece and Rome). The lectures encompass cult, public and residential architecture, town planning, building materials. Special attention is paid to typology, social orders, and to architectural composition. The comparative analysis method is applied.

The course introduces the students to the computer technologies applied in architectural design. The focus is on the conception for information modeling of buildings (Building Information Modelling – BIM) and on students’mastering the skills to use software products, applying this conception.Students get acquainted with the fundamentals of BIM conception – the architectural design as data base in which architectural components are grouped in categories, families, types and instances. Students learn how to create building components: walls, doors, windows, floor slabs, suspended ceilings, roofs, staircases and ramps, balustrades, terrains, etc..; how to change parametres of these  components customizing them to the specific requirements of the project; how to create anf shape views, such as plan views, elevations, sections, 3D and photorealistic images. In the seminars, students learn about good practices for use of highly effective tools, available in this software.
The course assignment is the principal means for assessment of students’ knowledge and practical skills. The course assignment is the same for all students and is accomplished within fixed time (2h), for which students receive their final grade.

The first part of course is a discipline that provides students with knowledge and skills how to add and decompose forces in planar systems of converging forces and in planar systems of parallel forces, how to

Students study the principal problems of strength of materials: the analytic determination of internal forces in a simply supported beam and a cantilever, the determination of moments of inertia of planar figures, of stresses in members under pure bending and compression, as well as in ones under pure bending and under bending with tension and compression, the determination of elastic lines for simple structural members. The material taught in part 1 and 2 of the “Architectural Structures” course provides students with the essential skills to design modern architectural structures, considering the requirements for modern construction systems, as well as those for roof structures over large open plan premises. It draws students’ attention to ecological issues, closely related to building production.

The course presents various frame building structures, as well as some specific for their execution ones, such as the method of multiple-point lift installation, or the use of wholly prefabricated units in building construction.

The course covers some textile architecture topics – pneumatic and tent structures.

Course assignment requirements:
To design open plan buildings with halls for various purposes, based on a given design scheme and construction system.The design must include the basement floor plan, a specific section, a roof plan, two elevations and at least two specific details.

The subject provides knowledge about design, as related to one of its four main parts. At the very beginning of introducing students to Graphical Design they have already acquired some knowledge and skills gained from Drawing, Color Science and the Theory of Composition academic subjects.  Students shall be introduced to the compulsory terminology, being an inherent part of the designers graphic-design-glossary.  Acquiring the specific terms and terminology occurrs throughout the process of hands-on experimental work during practical sessions and course tasks. The academic course "Raster Graphics" introduces to students some issues of computer graphics related to the making and editing of raster images. Special attention is paid to the application of computer raster images in architecture.

Students are introduced to main features of raster images: resolution, color models, file formats. They learn how to create raster images by using software products that have been learned before, like CAD and BIM software, as well as through software processing raster graphics. Terms like: channels, layers, masks shall be worked out on, as the immediate application of images (plans, drawings, photographs, photorealistic 3d images) being part of the architectural design shall be shown. Students learn techniques for using various software tools: vector drawing lines, selecting, cropping, color and hue adjustments, filtering.

The course assignment is an essential means to testing and evaluating students knowledge, as well as their practical skills. Course assignment is to be done for a limited time (within two academic hours) under the same conditions for all students, and thereupon students are assessed.

The course "Structural Mechanics 2" aims to give students knowledge and practical skills in methods of statically determinate and redundant truss systems (constructions). The basic methods for determining internal forces in tri-hinged systems and hinged beams, as well as the main methods for solving redundant systems - force method, displacement method.

During the exercises practical problems are solved that illustrate the methods discussed in the lectures. Acquired knowledge and skills are tested through inspection and protection of the developed course project.

In the course project for designing agricultural buildings, students become acquainted with the major trends in planning agricultural holdings. Students develop a master plan of farms, or a building complex for primary processing of agricultural products. They also learn about ways of developing spaces plus building orientation, plan solutions for a particular technology of growing animals. Students are made aware of selection of suitable structures for the implementation of the building and some possible variants for structural and spatial solutions.

The project shall be developed as based on already completed student's project on single-family-home of the "Architectural Design-part IV" course: The project covers selected spaces and rooms, being part of the house.

The course covers several phases of development:

  • exploring all  possibilities of a building, of which the interior design shall be made.
  • developing a concept, primary suggestions and ideas.
  • searching for and choosing a final decision.

The course aims to make known to students the most important principles and stages in interior design, volumetric spaces and color solutions.

Introducing students to modern materials and their application in practice. Detailed development of characteristic elements of the interior solution, complete process of development of interior design for residential structure with an emphasis on all the specifics of the task.

Course teaching "Architectural Structures 1 and 2" gives students a basic knowledge on designing modern architectural structures, introduces students to the latest developments in this area having the mere objective for their further effectuation in the construction practice.

Students are trained to form skills for independent work when designing architectural structures, taking into account the requirements of modern construction systems and roof structures over areas of large-span-support.

The course draws students' attention over issues related to environmental protection as it being in close connection with construction works.

In "Architectural Structures 1 and 2" academic courses, different falsework or scaffolding construction systems, also those of particular character in the manner of execution, and the method of multipoint lift installation or use of large cells in the construction of buildings are explored.

Some issues as those of the textile architecture: pneumatic and tent constructions are to be looked into. The project:
Assignment: A Plan scheme (an already taught construction-of-buildings system with large-span support) to design hall buildings with different functions. The content of the project includes: a ground floor plan, a characteristic cross-section; a roof plan; two elevations; at least two typical details.

Main topics: Ottoman architecture of the Middle Ages - the early Ottoman architecture - syncretism of the Armenian and Greek construction ideas with those of Syria-Iran-and-Middle Asia. Bulgarian builders are to be studied, as part of the Ottoman building practices. Architects and architectural ideas. Forming a new type of mosques - Bursenskiyat. As part of the course assignment for designing industrial enterprise, a spatial-development project has been required beforehand, as within that spatially developed territory, a suitable place (property) of the designed object will have to be identified and outlined. For this reason, not only assignments on industrial plants are to be presented, but also sketches of spatial projects developed by our students .

In the base course, not only the necessary analyses are to be explored, but also some technical-creative criteria for the design of industrial enterprises shall be considered, like: conflict-free environment of the building development; transportation and engineering infrastructure (networks); functional and technological requirements; variants of planned and structural solutions (single-storey, multi-storey, two-storey buildings and equipment); optimal structure-network design and construction; facade interpretations in openings, flesh (density), color harmony and materials; economic expediency; resilience to natural disasters.

The design of industrial areas clarifies certain concepts and requirements on the structure of territories in accordance with the Law on Territory Planning (ZUT), specific criteria in the industry, unaffected by the law, the new terms like "Sketch plan" and "General Plan of Industrial Enterprises”.

In the course project for the design of industrial territories there shall be a specified cadastral base, in whose organized territory the right place for the plan of a micro area shall be set. For this reason, except the task for industrial territory, a cadastral base with excerpts from the Master Plan of the settlement shall be represented.

The necessary analyses and technical-artistic criteria for the design of an industrial building are discussed during the course: environment and non-conflicting construction; transport and engineering infrastructure (networks); functional-technological requirements; variants of planning and structural solutions (single-storey, two-storey and multi-storey buildings and premises).

The specifics of all stages of preservation are presented – from the study and the determination of the complex cultural and historical value, through design, to the implementation of the projects. Students are introduced to the basic concepts in preservation as "restoration", "conservation", "exposition", "original", "authenticity", "degrees of intervention in the monument" etc. Knowledge of the legal protection of the monuments is given and the main national and international normative documents are presented. The best European practices and innovations of different objects and methods of protection are shown, such as "cultural routes", "cultural landscapes", "digital heritage", "education in preservation", "heritage at risk", etc.

The course introduces students to the basic concepts of the modern engineering seismology on nature of earthquakes and their effects on buildings and engineering facilities. It discusses factors determining the seismic risk to a territory and the seismic vulnerability of buildings. Terms like “mass”, “stiffness”, “damping” and others associated with the dynamic response of structures under earthquake are considered. Students are introduced to the basic concepts and rules for a composing and detailed design with a view to ensure a favourable seismic behaviour of buildings and facilities. Emphasis is placed on specific productions of Eurocodes System relating to criteria for regularity and ductility of structures. Typical examples are shown and critical analysis of the architectural and construction decisions is made. Students become acquainted with some innovative technologies for seismic construction as seismic isolation, damping systems. After a successful completion of the course, students acquire basic knowledge and practical skills to work in a team with construction engineers in the design of buildings in seismic areas.

“Architectural Design 12” is aimed at preparing projects for adaptation and restoration of buildings and ensembles with the status of monuments of culture. The urban level of the design of protected areas of cultural heritage shall be concerned. Projects include the following parts: "Research and Documentation" and "Design for Adaptation, Restoration and Exposition". The composition and the scope of the projects shall adhere to the requirements of article 23 of Regulation No 4 of the MRDPW.

The practical training includes cultural routes. The objects review national good or bad practices in preservation. Archaeological reserves, historic sites, monasteries, churches and museums shall be visited.

Целта на учебната програма е да попълни дефицита от теоретични познания в областта на иновационното проектиране, който дефицит е преграда в постигането на нови архитектурни решения с изобретателска стъпка.

Програмата обхваща теорията на иновационните стъпки, прилагани в иновационното проектиране от направлението „Архитектура на сгради, конструкции, съоръжения и детайли“. Неочакваните комбинации от известни технически признаци и нови технически признаци определят броя на иновационните стъпки- една, две или повече на брой. Тези стъпки са разположени в характеризиращата част на патентните претенции, съгласно заявката на патент за изобретение на сграда, конструкция, съоръжение или детайл.

Архитектурата се разглежда като относително единство на иновационните стъпки, решаващи по нов начин функцията, конструкцията, строителния материал, строителната технология в зависимост от ограничителните условия на поставената задача.

Нови и оригинални архитектурни решения са възможни и без участието на нови технически признаци, но тези решения са в резултат само на неочаквани комбинации от обективните свойства на формата и средствата за естетическата й организация.

Най-висока степен на иновативност се постига, когато тези неочакваните комбинации за постигане на оригиналност и неповторимост на архитектурното решение се комбинират с неочакваните комбинации от известните технически признаци и новите технически признаци, характеризиращи патентните претенции на заявката на патент за изобретение. По този начин може да се постигне висока степен на конкурентно способност на архитектурните решения.

Учебната програма за свободно избираемата дисциплина „ПРОФЕСИЯТА АРХИТЕКТ” СЕ СЪСТОИ В ПРИДОБИВАНЕ ОТ СТУДЕНТИТЕ специалност Архитектура - 7-ми и 8-и семестър на основни понятия и познания за посоките и начините на упражняване на професията в нейните разнообразни аспекти и проявления. Прави се разбор и подробно се изяснява функцията на институцията КАБ и понятието „РЕГУЛИРАНА ПРОФЕСИЯ”; Целите и задачите на ЗКАИИП; изяснява и запознава с пътя и професионалната практика преди и след дипломиране за придобиване на членство в КАБ, понятията „Ограничена” и „Пълна” правоспособност; Законодателната рамка, дефинираща проектантската дейност на архитекта; нормативната уредба в инвестиционното проектиране и устройственото планиране; видовете направления на придобилите образователна степен „магистър” с професионална квалификация „архитект”; възможностите за свободна практика, работа в бюро, експерт в общинска и държавна администрация, преподавател, консултант. Изясняват се въпросите относно видовете договори, тръжни книжа, процедури и участие в обществени поръчки и европейски проекти, конкурси за проектиране и наредба за конкурсите; авторски надзор, авторско право, отговорности и застраховане. Особено място се отделя на Методиката за оразмеряване на възнагражденията за изработване на инвестиционни проекти и устройствени планове. Лекционният курс предполага запознаване с необходимостта и съдържанието на непрекъснатото обучение през целия живот, станало неразделна част от световните стандарти за устойчиво развитие и гарантиране на високо ниво на архитектурната практика.

The course introduces the legal and regulatory frameworks, related to the types of Cultural heritage and movable cultural property and specifically the types of arts in the architectural environment such as wall paintings, mosaics, sculpture, and architectural details as an art, carving, wood carving and more. Those are discussed in a chronological aspect, in a historical context and in relation to the characteristics of the temple and profane architecture in the Bulgarian lands from antiquity to the Third Bulgarian State (mid-20c). The course includes methods of attribution of art works, exposition and conservation in an architectural environment, and problems of how to preserve them in museum environment. Diachronic and Synchronic analyses are applied. As a result, the students get to know the movable Cultural heritage, which has a direct relation with the Architecture and acquire the ability to common European context.

Кофражни системи и скелета за изграждане на сгради и съоръжения – обща характеристика и класификация. Рамкови кофражи за изпълнение на стени и колони – устройство, приложение, оразмеряване. Кофражни системи: Реri (Trio, Domino, Handset); NOE (Top; Vario и др.); Doka (Framax, Frami) и др. Кофражи за изграждане на сгради и съоръжения с кръгли стени и колони (Peri Rundflex, NOE – combi 20, Monotub и др.). Кофражни системи за изпълнение на плочи и греди: Peri (Multiflex, Skydeck), NOE (H20) и Dokaflex 1-2-4. Подпори Peri (Multiprop, PEP). Подпори Doka Eco 20 и др. Кофражни маси (Peri, NOE, Doka и др.) за изпълнение на междуетажни конструкции. Работни предпазни скелета. Кофражни и монтажни носещи скелета. Автоматизирано проектиране на кофражи.
