Introduction

Doncho Naumov Partov was born in Lom, Bulgaria. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering “Department of steel construction and bridges” in Brno, Czechoslovakia and achieved Master,s  degree in October, 1969. Yours great interesting to the steel construction orientated  him to beginning  the work in the  factory (Kralovopolske strojirny) for design and production for steel construction in Brno, Czechoslovakia. Mr. D. Partov has been working as constructor in this factory  from 01.December, 1969 to April, 1971. He was awarded a CSc.,(corresponding to Ph.D. and Dr.Eng) at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Brno, Czechoslovakia , April, 1980.

His recent position include:

After return in Bulgaria from June 1971 to May 1974 he worked in Sofia, BRV”Metalstroj” as constructor in the field of steel construction . From June 1974 to 1981worked in  Sofia as designer in KNIPITIS-PSS. From June 1981 to 1999 worked in Sofia as designer in KNIPIAT –GLAVPROEKT.

In addition to professional work of construction, supervision and design, there are lot of activities in scientific researches and educational field.

1998-1999, Assistant Professor. From 1999 till now worked in Higher School of Civil Engineering “L.Karavelov, Sofia, as  Assoc. Professor and Head of the Chair “Structural Mechanics”. From 09.2000 to 04.2001 was a Vice Dean of the  Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Professional  Experience

Dr.Eng D.Partov is a licensed professional engineer in Civil Engineering and he has been responsible for many design projects, studies  and architectural competition proposals.

Professional activity, in the first 30 years, he was mainly directed to designing of various steel, concrete and composite steel-concrete structures, among which outstanding is: exhibition hall for “Bulgarian Association of Building and Buildings  Industry in Plovdiv”, which  roof is from spatial structures(1986-1987); some petroleum parks with reservoirs with floating roofs (1984-1994); some bridges with orthotropic deck (1975-1983), some interesting project  for strengthening of great excavation for new metro in Sofia.

During many years of work he deals with wider field of structural engineering: Composite Steel-Concrete Structure, double layer  steel spatial structures, Seismic analysis of infilled reinforced concrete frames and liquid-storage tank, Special problems of strengthening of great excavation with steel frame, used for station –metro in Sofia, Research- work and evaluation of condition of existing  historically structures. In the recent few years he has taken an active part as a responsible Designer  and Consultant  on “Taisei” Company, (the main builder of Sofia Metro ). He is author of scriptum “Static of Determinate Structures-part I,  in English language for  students in VSU “L.Karavelov”. He managed (in the period 2008-2010) a one scientific-research project between Czech Academy of Science, Bulgarian  Academy of Science and University of Structural Engineering and Architecture ”L.Karavelov”, concerning  the mechanic-mathematical model of steel church  “St. Stefan  in Istanbul.

According to evaluation of scientific work at the Ministry of Science of Bulgaria he has the highest science competence  index in field of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (in VSU”L.Karavelov).

He published over 215 papers out of which some 94 at International Journals and Proceedings. He was a scientific committee member at several international scientific meetings: Novy Sad, Brno, Bratislava, Sacramento-USA. Many of his papers were published in journals (published in bulgarian): Stroitelstvo, Patista, Tehiceska misal,  Tehniceska mehanika.  Another  part of his article were published  in journals (published in Czech, Russian, Deutsch and English  language ).

He held a two introductory lectures at the international scientific meetings in Ioannina –Grece(2008) and Podbanske-Slovakia(2012).

Teaching Experience

His principal subjects that he holds for students of civil engineering  in VSU L.Karavelov”are :”Statics of Determinate structures-Part I”; “Statics of Indeterminate structures-Part II”, ”Statics of spatial structures”, Analysis  and design of composite steel-concrete  Structures “. He teaches : Fundamentals of structural mechanics, planar and spatial structures, Member forces in statically determinate and indeterminate Beams and Frames structures, Influence Line for statically determinate and indeterminate structures, Force and Consistent Deformations methods, Concept and Applications  of  finite element method, Rheology of Materials-Creep and Shrinkage of concrete,  Behavior of composite  steel-concrete and wood-steel structures under sustained Load . He managed more than 10 master’s works and 3 doctoral dissertations. Except of English dr.eng. D. Partov has good working knowledge of Czech, Slovak, Russian and German Language.

Award and Tributes:

For the work on constructive documentation for ecological petroleum parks, from reservoirs with floating roofs (1984-1990), he was awarded with title: Civil Engineer ,91.

For the work on constructive documentation for building with spatial structures, type MArhY-PPK, 1984, in the national competition “Research-Adopting –World Level” in 1985 year dr.eng. D. Partov was awarded with Diploma and encouragement prize.

In 1982 for adopting of effective and originally constructive documentation for battery of 8 steel cement storage silos with volumes 300 tons each of them, he was awarded with the title “Innovator”.

Professional and public activities

Dr.eng.  D. Partov is a Member in: International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) – Zurich, Switzerland; Associations of Structural Engineers and Technicians of Bulgaria (KIIP), Society of Structural Engineers of Bulgaria. From 2010 he is member of Editorial board  of the “Slovak Journal of Civil Engineering”, Bratislava. From 2001 he organized every year in VSU”L.Karavelov –Sofia, professional and international scientific conference meetings

Expert and Forensic Engineering Experience

Prof.Dr.Eng.Doncho Naumov Partov  has  more than 40 years experience as forensic Engineer  for Building Assessment, Building Defects or Damages and Failure Analysis. He elaborated more than 50 written experts opinions which include i.a. heavily damaged structures or building due to

earthquake in Strazica and Popovo.

Research Interests

His Research interests  involve mechanics-mathematical modeling of composite steel-concrete structures, regarding  creep and shrinkage of concrete, used the theory of visco-elastic body of Maslov-Arutyunyan -Trost-Zerna -Bažant. Analysis of structures in the light of the theory  of “robustness structures”. Historic structures and materials  in the light of the modern theory of structural mechanics.

Grant and other projects. He was awarded about 5 research grants from Ministries of education  The results are published  in more than 10 publication, and in 20 Proceedings.
