The VSU Library is the youngest among the libraries of all the higher education institutions in Sofia (it is established in 1967). In the period 1970-2000 there has been bought literature only from Bulgaria and USSR. Hardly after 2000, when VSU is reorganized from a military into a civilian higher school, the library can provide the buying and subscription for many specialized books and periodicals from the other European countries and the USA. Since 2000 the annual increase of the library book-stocks is about 600 pieces as a priority is provided literature related to the education-methodological and scientific activity of the School.

At present the Library offers for use by the professors, students and staff of VSU about 46 000 library pieces, including books, periodicals (from Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Russia, USA, etc.), normative documents, patents, video cassettes and compact discs From them 34 650 are scientific, reference and education-methodological literature in the engineering and architecture sphere and 8 200 volumes are fiction, social – political and military literature.

The distribution of the book-stocks in the different languages is as follows: 38 165 volumes in Bulgarian, 3 420 volumes in Russian, 720 volumes in English, 380 volumes in German, 150 volumes in French and 15 volumes in other languages (Spanish, Czech).

The specialized periodicals are 2 100 complete annuals of different magazines, scientific works, bulletins and others in Bulgarian, Russian, English, German and French.

The Library maintains and develops a Computer Catalogue. It is connected to the Internet.

Today the VSU Library maintains relations and provides exchange with the largest scientific libraries in Bulgaria – The National Library “ Sts. Cyril and Methodius”, the Library to the higher technical education Institutions and others. Through the National Library “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” - “International interlibrary book exchange” Department the VSU Library has access to all largest national libraries in Europe and USA that gives the opportunity for taking of all kind of literature, ordered by the professors and the PhD students in VSU.
